Workshops & Events
Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (Guruji) came from an ancient lineage of philosophical thinkers, dating back to Adi Shankaracharya. Though most of us knew Guruji for his teaching of yoga, there was an entire tradition of worship, mythology, and philosophy that his method of yoga rested upon. In addition to the practice of asana in guided and mysore style class settings, Eddie will lead two lectures during this four day workshop. During these sessions Eddie will discuss Guruji's family tradition and how it informed his views on yoga. Central to the discussion will be the idea of svadhyaya (personal mantras and study) and isvara-pranidhana, devotion to a personal idea of the divine. Eddie will also explain and lead everyone through a simple puja for Ganesh, the ruler of obstacles, and bestower of success of new undertakings. Please come join us for a weekend of Ashtanga yoga, chanting, and philosophy with a dedicated and devoted student of Pattabhi Jois!
2) Evolutionary Astrology Workshop with Steven Forrest, June 14th-17th, 2012
We are very happy to announce the return of Steven Forrest (http://www.forrestastrology.com/) to Durham, NC, for the continuation of the North Carolina apprenticeship program! Last year, the group explored the foundation and intricacies of the natal birthchart; and now it is on to learning about transits and progressions. It is important that all participants read and familiarize themselves with Steven's book "The Changing Sky" prior to attending. Steven's description of the workshop is below. We hope to see you there, as it is guaranteed to be a positive and transformative experience. Steven is a truly amazing teacher!
Intentional Transits and Progressions
What if transiting Saturn is heading for an opposition to your Sun? The conventional astrological response is to make the sign of the cross, utter an expletive - and to take refuge in the promise that This Too Shall Pass. In that universe of belief, we are the victims of “bad” astrological weather and the beneficiaries of “good” weather. In both cases we are passive in relation to the planets, as inert as billiard balls knocked around on the table of life. How might we do better than that? How might we fully embody the choice-centered principles of Evolutionary Astrology? Instead of trying to predict what will happen, let’s begin to anticipate the nature of the possibilities inherent in an upcoming configuration. We will face fears and any Shadow-work honestly, but we will never clip the wings of our imaginations by looking no further than the heavy side of things. Always, we keep our eye on the prize - the lesson our soul is learning, and the easiest, most harmonious and efficient path to embodying it.
As we learn to “walk this talk” ourselves, we empower our clients and friends with the same magic. Once we move beyond fatalism and deadening prediction, we‘ve entered the heart of Evolutionary Astrology. Choices and wisdom - consciousness, in other words - become the moving force behind every transit, progression, or solar arc.
In this seminar, we will spend about half the time working on the theoretical foundations of evolutionary “prediction” and the other half applying those principles to the charts of class members drawn at random. Come prepared with curiosity - and perhaps even some anxiety - about an upcoming astrological event in your own chart. We will focus on how to prepare for it with clear understanding and positive, disciplined evolutionary intentions.
